SOUTHERN SYSTEM DIVISION
The Southern System is one of many Systems and Federations that make up the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division, International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
The Southern System Division represents more than 1400 men and women who maintain the tracks, bridges, buildings and right of way for Norfolk Southern Railroad and a small portion of CSX Railroad in Spartanburg, S.C.
The Southern System was formed by a series of mergers of smaller Systems/Federations during the late 50's and early 60's. The Southern System represents union members in 14 states in the southeast region and is headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The BMWE union was established in 1887 on the banks of the Warriors’ river in Demopolis, AL. And voted to merge with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters on December 8, 2004 to become the BMWED/IBT. The BMWED National Division headquarters is located in Michigan and Washington, D.C.
